What is the Teen Literature Convention?
The Twin Cities Teen Lit Con is where authors, books, teens, & fun collide. There will be 10 amazing authors, breakout sessions, & an action packed Exhibit Hall (book arts, book signings, & much more). Teens will have the opportunity to connect with their favorite authors, explore other aspects of being a part of a reading community, & attend workshops for writers.
Who can attend?
The event is open to the public, but the event & activities are focused on teens. The goal is to give teens the opportunity to meet authors, learn about writing & publishing, & enjoy literary fun. All readers of YA literature are welcome, but we want teens to feel that this event is for them.
How much does it cost to attend?
The event is free and open to the public. No registration required.
Can I bring a class/bus of students with me?
Yes, please do! But if you plan to do so please let us know (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Can I buy books onsite?
Yes! We will be selling books in the exhibit hall. But bring cash or a credit card – there is no ATM on campus.
Can I bring my own books for authors to sign?
Yes, you may.
Where can I get one of those cool t-shirts?
If we have any leftover after all our volunteers are outfitted, we will be selling them at the front info desk after 2pm on the day of the event. There may even be a few ‘vintage’ shirts from previous years. First come, first served; sizes may be limited. Cash or card. Price to be determined.
Can I volunteer?
Librarians, teachers, media specialists, parents, & other adults are welcome to volunteer. No teens, please. We want teens to be able to enjoy the entire Con! Click here to see the volunteer announcement. Note: you may see teen volunteers–these are Sibley HS Page Warriors, the group of students who are affiliated with the Sibley HS Library. They are involved in planning the event, set-up, & more.
May I invite a Teen Lit Con National author to my school the day/week before the event?
No, you may not. Our contracts have an exclusivity cause that means the authors may not do another event in the region for a period of time around ours. Why do we do this? There are two reasons:
• We want to encourage students to attend Teen Lit Con and be exposed to many authors; a school visit may discourage that.
• It is not fair to the other 200+ high schools & middle schools in the Twin Cities.
Please do not put the author in an awkward position by asking her/him to break that clause.
Will there be food available?
Yes – concessions will be open from 10:00-3:30. But bring cash – there is no ATM on campus.
Is there an ATM available?
No – there is no ATM on campus.
By nature of your attendance at Teen Lit Con you are granting permission for photos/video of your image to be used by MELSA and its Teen Lit Con partners in print materials, media, and other vehicles for our promotion as we see fit.
